Cape Town
Directions to the Cape of Good Hope
There are two possible routes for driving from Cape Town to the Cape of Good Hope / Cape Point National Park in South Africa:
The first option is to drive along the Eastern side of the Cape Peninsula (False Bay) – via the M3 to Muizenberg and then via St. James, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Simon’s Town (you can also combine this with a visit to the African Penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach).
The second option is to drive along the Western side of the Cape Peninsula – via Camps Bay, Llandudno, Hout Bay, the breathtaking Chapman’s Peak Drive, Noordhoek, Kommetjie and Scarborough.
If you want to combine both routes it is best to choose to drive towards the Cape of Good Hope along the False Bay side. On your way back to Cape Town you can drive along Chapman’s Peak and admire the sunset from there (please check the opening hours for the Chapman’s Peak Drive beforehand).
Route 1: False Bay via Muizenberg and Simon’s Town
Travelling time from Cape Town: about 1 hour (approx. 60km to the entrance)
Please note: There could be traffic jams or road works. Please allow enough time for your drive to the Cape of Good Hope (or also for a Penguin visit).
Route 2: Chapman’s Peak Drive and Scarborough
Travelling time from Cape Town: a bit over an hour (approx. 60km to the entrance)
Please note: Chapman’s Peak Drive is not always open (weather-dependent). The opening hours are also changing depending on the season (summer/winter).
